Detective Ray Donovan hadn’t slept in two days. A missing girl. A cold trail. And now a dismembered mannequin left on his front porch with a note that read: “One piece for each day you waste.”
The chief had already threatened to pull him off the case, but Ray knew this was personal. He hadn’t told anyone that the missing girl, Casey, was his niece. Now, standing in the rain, he stared at the photo nailed to the phone pole—Casey, smiling, but with her eyes scribbled out in red ink.
His phone buzzed. No caller ID. He answered.
A voice: “Tick-tock, Uncle Ray.”
